FTP Umbilical Connector Outboard Assembly:
The outboard assembly comprises three main items:
The docking/alignment probe, which carries the outboard mounting plate on which are installed the various hydraulic couplers and/or electrical connectors. The probe is tubular in section and its function is twofold. Firstly the bore is used for engagement of the ROV mounted Umbilical Connection Tool. Its second function is alignment, as the probe mates with the inboard docking funnel to provide the first stage of the progressive alignment sequence.
The Retlock assembly, which is mounted through the centre of the outboard mounting plate. Its function is to make-up and releases the outboard from the inboard assembly, with the second stage of the alignment sequence by the Retlock connector nose at the inboard plate. Also mounted on the outboard plate, are the alignment pins/receptacles, which are also dual functioned. Firstly they act as the tertiary alignment stage in the alignment sequence; secondly they control the face-to-face separation of the mating plates.
The umbilical clamp bracket hangs below the outboard mounting plate, connected by screw fixings. The main function of the bracket is to support the umbilical jumper, but it also functions as a weak link. In the event of the umbilical being snagged, it will progressively break away from the clamp bracket and bulkhead plate, leaving the outboard assembly and inboard structure undamaged.
